Why Icon?

Architecturally refined.
Technologically intelligent.

Ready to install.

ICON by VOLTAIC replaces traditional roofing with a power-producing concrete tile system engineered as part of the building envelope. Designed as a ventilated roof assembly, ICON manages heat more effectively than direct-to-deck solar products, delivering more consistent real-world energy output while meeting demanding roofing codes in high-wind, fire, and extreme-climate environments.

What Makes ICON Different

  • Ventilated, sealed roof assembly (not direct-to-deck)

  • Concrete tile as thermal mass / heat sink

  • Code acceptance in demanding jurisdictions (HVHZ, fire)

  • Roof-first installation practices

  • Consistent real-world output vs lab-only claims

Why ICON Performs Better in Real Conditions

ICON is engineered as a sealed roofing system with controlled under-tile airflow, not a direct-to-deck solar product. By integrating concrete roofing materials, thermal mass, and managed airflow beneath the tiles, ICON limits heat buildup at the roof surface while preserving a fully weather-tight roof assembly. This approach supports durability, occupant comfort, and more consistent real-world energy production—especially in hot, high-sun, and demanding environments.

  • Sealed, ventilated roof assembly — Airflow occurs beneath the tiles within a fully sealed roofing system, allowing heat to dissipate without exposing the roof to moisture, pests, or debris.

  • Concrete thermal mass — Concrete acts as a natural heat sink, drawing heat away from the solar cells and roof structure to help maintain performance during peak temperatures.

  • Non-reflective DuPont mineral surface — A textured mineral coating improves low-sun and off-angle energy capture without glare, supporting more consistent production throughout the day.

ICON vs Other Solar Roofing Approaches

Solar roofing products may look similar at a glance, but performance, efficiency, and system design vary significantly once installed. ICON is engineered as a roofing system first, which places it in a distinct category compared to other solar roofing approaches.

Rack-Mounted Solar Panels

Rack-mounted systems attach above an existing roof using rails and penetrations. While widely available, they sit above the roof surface, add visual hardware, and treat roofing and solar as separate systems.

Glass-Based Solar Roof Tiles

Some solar roofing products rely on glass tiles combined with inactive “dummy” tiles to achieve visual uniformity. While this approach integrates solar into the roof plane, it limits the percentage of the roof that actively produces energy and places performance constraints on whole-home system design.

ICON Integrated Solar Roofing

ICON replaces traditional roofing with a sealed, roof-integrated concrete solar tile system designed to maximize active surface area and manage heat effectively. Every ICON tile is power-producing, eliminating the need for inactive filler tiles. Combined with higher-efficiency cells, a favorable power temperature coefficient, and managed under-tile airflow, ICON delivers more consistent real-world output—particularly in hot climates—while preserving a uniform architectural surface and predictable system economics.
